1. Overview: Why Swap to the N54 Manifold?
Compared to the factory 3 stage manifold (with DISAs), this N54 manifold has more peak power and less low end torque. N54 manifold is stated by the community of feeling more linear, which wants you to wind out the gears. It removes the x2 DISA valves that are known to break and get stuck either in the intake manifold or get sucked into the engine causing catastrophic failure, being more reliable long term*. 
With the N54 manifold you also have easier access to the wiring harness under the manifold, the starter which you can remove without removing the intake manifold, crankshaft position sensor, and vacuum pump which are usually all covered by the single stage and 3 stage intake manifold.
The N54 manifold will benefit more for those in the higher RPM or tracking their vehicles, as your powerband is moved up in the RPM, which the 3 stage intake manifold is beneficial for low end torque and city driving.

Who this swap makes sense for
Manual transmission or the ZF6 / ZF8 automatics as these transmissions can raise the rev limit to 7500 RPM to take advantage of the extra top-end airflow.
Any N52 turbo or supercharger builds as the boosted manifold from the N54 makes more sense for the simple and intended design.
328i / GM automatic transmissions are a poor candidate on their own as there is currently no tune to raise the redline of the GM transmission.
It is recommended to add additional mods to improve your cars driving experience like ram air like air scoops and D-Style attachments and exhaust mods to free up backpressure.

NOTE: While the car will run and drive with the manifold swap, we highly recommend getting an ECU tune to maximize your intake manifold and mods that have been done to the chassis to bring your car alive!

2.1 Other parts and supplies you'll need
- A donor N54 twin turbo intake manifold- New intake manifold gaskets, if both manifold gaskets are old or damaged.
- Either 1. N54 throttle body + matching connector (if MSV70), or our new 3/4 inline barb tee with fuel connector to use your factory throttle body
- Air intake boot setup, either TortSportsUSA custom made N54 to N52 airbox or a custom one with 3.25 silicone 90 degree and 45 degree bends (see N54 Manifold Swap Thread)

4. Step-by-Step Installation
Highly Recommend watching Ultimate Bimmer Experience for a video tutorial. Intake Manifold Retrofit. This written tutorial might be missing info.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal
-Remove the valve cover beauty cover, cowl, cabin filter, air box, and air intake pipe, o2 sensor connectors and throttle body
- Unplug the fuel tank vent connector from the intake manifold, behind the throttle body.
- Unplug both DISA valve connectors (if 3 stage intake manifold) and the MAP sensor.
- Unplug the PCV heater connector. 
- Unplug the throttle body connector.
- Disconnect the two screws holding on the steel bracket to the intake manifold, if stuck or seized, break the plastic tabs that the metal bracket is slotted into, do have fix for broken plastic tabs.
- Remove the intake manifold 11mm bolts and nuts, making sure no debris falls into the intake ports.
- Save your factory PCV heater, sensors, and any brackets you plan to reuse, you will transfer some of these to the N54 manifold in the next section.
- Use a 9/64 drill bit to open up the holes in the manifold, don't drill too deep and reference the bolt and pcv heater thickness as spacing.
- Dremel out the center pcv heater hole, leaving a shallow lip of the previous material as seen here.


- Screw down PCV heater adapter to the manifold, use the M5 screws to bolt down PCV heater. 
- Connect catch can or 3/4 hose or custom made CCV hosing to go from valve cover to intake manifold, leaving the manifold side loose till installed.  
- Pop out the metal alignment dowels and install the carbon fiber nylon dowels in, with the hole facing towards the top.
- Use a 3/16 vacuum cap to plug the line near the throttle body position.
- Clean the N54 manifold, remove carbon build up (from crappy direct injection), transfer - MAP from old manifold to new manifold
      - If you're MSV70, either swap throttle body connector or use the inline tee with fuel vapor port.
     - If you're MSV80, you can just install the N54 throttle body or use stock N52 throttle body with inline tee with fuel vapor port.
- If you can, install the metal bracket onto the intake manifold, to mount the wiring harness.
- Double check thickness of intake manifold gaskets, replace if needed.
- Install intake manifold and tighten down the bolts and nuts. 
- Reconnect the wiring harness to the manifold metal bracket.
- Due to recall, and your weather, if you don't see negative weather at all, you don't need to plug in the PCV heater again. If you are in a cold climate, recommend doing PCV heater recall and make sure wiring looks good when plugging in.
- Reconnect the fuel vapor line connector either into catch can hose or into the throttle body side
- Plug in MAP sensor
- Connect the 3/4 hose onto the pcv heater adapter by doing a reach around on your engine, tighten the clamp through runner spacing. 
- Reconnect o2 sensors to the proper connector (paint marker is your friend)
- Double check every connector, hose, and fastener against your removal notes/photos before moving on.
- Reinstall the strut brace (if removed) and torque it.
- Can reinstall the TortSport intake boot to mate to the stock airbox, airbox, valve cover beauty cover, cowl and cabin filter housing.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Do a visual once over of the bay for any leftover tools, loose clips, or unplugged connectors.


5. Post Install Checks
- Start the engine and let it idle while checking for vacuum leaks (listen for hissing, watch for an unstable idle) around the new manifold gasket and PCV connections. If it dies immediately, unplug MAF and if it runs, you have an air leak.
- Check for any fault codes with an OBD scanner, 3 stage owners expect DISA related codes if you haven't tuned your ECU yet.
- Go for a small drive before leaving it for the next day, catch any hiccups or issues before your main drive


6. Notes & Troubleshooting
- Might need to leave a little bit of hardline crankcase hoses on the connectors to make it easier to slip on and off the 3/4 hose. Hard line hose likely to be brittle, and why we recommend 3/4 fuel/pcv hose
